Campaign Launch Weekend

BACKGROUND

In Durham, N.C., Duke University sought to create an engaging and memorable three-day launch weekend for its MADE FOR THIS campaign. The goal was to connect with their most significant donors and dedicated volunteers in a novel and interactive manner. The events included a welcome event, plenary sessions, and a capstone celebratory event designed to highlight attendee voices and foster a sense of co-creation. The aim was to ensure that attendees were not merely passive observers but active participants.

To achieve this, INVNT introduced “Archie,” a custom AI chatbot that served as the digital host for the weekend. Archie invited attendees to reflect on their experiences at Duke, how these experiences shaped them, and their aspirations for the future. Engagement was driven by posing three key questions from the stage during Plenary Sessions and Workshops.

INVNT transformed guests from spectators into storytellers. The responses to Archie’s three key questions were collected and presented during the capstone celebration event. The team processed and visually translated hundreds of individual inputs into stunning visual expressions using AI. These were then showcased on a 30-foot-high LED cylinder that served as the centerpiece of the space. Accompanied by a beautiful collage of photography, this created a dynamic mosaic of storytelling—a “MADE FOR THIS MOMENT”—crafted by the collective Duke community.

The innovative use of AI and interactive elements successfully engaged attendees, making them feel integral to the event. The visual and emotional impact of the collective storytelling fostered a deeper connection to the campaign and the university, leaving a lasting impression on all participants.
